Characterization of Extractables from Dental Bite Guards Using GC-TOFMS

This application note details the characterization of extractable compounds from dental bite guards using high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HRT-TOFMS) with GC×GC and ChromaTOF software. Materials used in dental devices may release chemical compounds over time, raising concerns about patient safety and material performance. The study demonstrates how comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) combined with HRT-TOFMS enables in-depth profiling of extractables with high sensitivity and resolution. ChromaTOF aids in rapid data analysis, compound identification, and visualization. The resulting data offer insights into potential leachables that may migrate from polymers or additives used in bite guard materials.
