Thomas Groger [University of Rostock] discusses the benefits that GCxGC provided their laboratory with the study of crude oils, bitumen, and various high boilers (solvents added to slow evaporation rates). This webinar focused on the application of nominal and high resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry coupled to gas chromatography and thermal inlet systems for the comprehensive quantitative and/or qualitative analysis of petroleum derived matrices, from middle distillates to vacuum residues. Highlights include: adoption of GCxGC towards high temperature and phase considerations; determination of boiling point distribution by high temp GCxGC; classification according to compound class; and, derivation of absolute quantitative information.
